Cylinder:
Usually refers to either the entire unit, or commonly the "body"
of the unit. |

Piston:
Defined as a solid part that fits within the (body) of the cylinder.,
The piston moves back and forth under fluid / air pressure,
to displaces or compresses fluids / gasses. This creates the
surface for which the compressed fluid / air is forced against,
causing action of the cylinder. |

Barrel:
This is also known as the housing, casing, body, or cylinder.

Port:
This is the entrance in the cylinder body that allows the
passage of fluid from the hydraulic system, (or air in a air
system). Most commonly used ports are regular NPT or SAE's.
This also includes manifolds containing control / relief valves
or test ports.

Mount:
Also defined as "hook up", "ends", or "mountings"
. Standard mountings are:
- Clevis, (2 ear design).
- Lug, (one single ear).
- Pineye, (cross-tube).
- Lifting eye, (not really a mount but considered in the
in the quoting process as one).
- Rod eye (hole in rod perpendicular to to end diameter).
- Trunnion mounts, (mounting on the body of the cylinder)
- Flange mounts, (could be on the front, rear side, or anywhere
on the body of the cylinder)
- Foot mounts (on the bottom, usually at both ends of the
cylinder

Rod:
The rod is the portion of the cylinder that transfers the linear
motion to the attached object. |

Head:
This is the part that maintains the fluid within the body
of the cylinder and is located on the rod end or both ends
in the event it is a double ended cylinder. This part is most
likely of the threaded design. This to can be built to customer
specs. However we would like this aspect left to our engineers
at Sierra.

Cushions:
Cushions slow the flow of the hydraulic fluid escaping at the
exhaust port at the end of the stroke. This keeps the cylinder
from "banging" or "crashing" at the end
of its travel for more delicate operations. |

Base:
This refers to the end piece opposite of the head. This also
retains the fluid within the chamber, and provides for a "hook-up"
at the base end of the cylinder.
